
Rebroadcast: Design Hunting in Yamanashi
"Design Hunting in Yamanashi," which aired last year on NHK Educational TV's Design Talks+, will be rebroadcast on February 5, 2020, from 10:25 a.m. The program will introduce various Yamanashi craftsmen, including those from Makita Shoten, from a design perspective, making for a very interesting program. Design Hunting is a journey to discover designs rooted in the history and culture of a region. This time, Andy and Shaula visited Yamanashi Prefecture. Surrounded by high mountains such as Mount Fuji and the Southern Alps, this naturally rich land is home to traditional crafts and industries. They will introduce the traditional craft of inden, made from deerskin and lacquer, jewelry designs that boast the highest production volume in Japan, and new umbrella designs that make use of weaving techniques. They will explore Yamanashi designs that connect local traditions to the next generation!
