Fabric type

We continue to create new possibilities for fabric by selecting and weaving a variety of materials and threads to suit the purpose and design.
Makita Shoten mainly weaves umbrella fabric and clothing fabric, as well as the following types of fabric.

We also regularly introduce our original fabrics on Instagram. You can choose your favorite fabric and order or customize the fabric.

<Large Jacquard>

It is possible to weave a single-piece pattern up to 180cm wide. From small patterns to panel patterns, you can freely create layouts.

<Puffed weave>

The fabric is puffy, with air between the front and back, giving it a modern and elegant feel.

<Cut Jacquard>

By cutting off the excess thread without weaving it in, you can create a more three-dimensional pattern.

<Single-color jacquard>

Using a satin weave, the fabric creates a woven pattern with shades by combining one color of warp thread and one color of weft thread.

<Multicolored jacquard>

By using two or more colors of weft thread, you can weave patterns that resemble oil paintings. At Makita Shoten, we can use up to eight colors of weft thread.

< Textured Jacquard >

This fabric has a stretchy and non-shrinking weft thread woven into it, causing the pattern to stand out on the surface.

<Futsuori>

A type of double weave in which two pieces of fabric are overlapped, creating a pattern with different colors on the front and back.

<Double Face>

A reversible fabric with different patterns on the front and back. Also known as double cloth.

<Chambray>

Also known as Tamamushi weave, this fabric is woven with warp and weft threads of different colors at high density. It is characterized by its deep color and gloss. It is a lightweight and durable fabric that appears different in color depending on the light.

<Yarn-dyed check>

A checkered fabric. The yarn is dyed before weaving, making it a "pre-dyed" check that is less likely to fade and allows for beautiful, deep colors and patterns.

<Stripe>

Vertically striped fabric. A rich variety of variations is possible thanks to the production area where skein yarn can be dyed.

<Weft border>

Fabric with horizontal stripes. By using colorful fancy yarns, you can create complex, colorful patterns.

<Satin>

This elegant fabric has a strong luster and is woven using fine threads. It is characterized by its smooth and comfortable feel.

<Ayaori>

This fabric has a diagonal weave, also known as twill. It is flexible and wrinkle-resistant.

<Grosgrain>

This fabric has a distinct undulating texture and is often used for ribbons. It is stiff, durable, and wrinkle-resistant.

<Organdy>

A thin, transparent fabric with a firm texture. It is a lightweight, durable, and luxurious fabric.

Functional textile

About fabric processing

We can mainly perform post-processing on yarn-dyed polyester fabrics to make them waterproof, water repellent, UV resistant, and heat shielding. In addition to umbrella fabric, we can produce fabrics that are perfect for items that require functionality, such as outdoor and interior items.

Resources that continue to inspire creators

Makita Shoten maintains an archive of fabric making from the time of its founding.
The designs of the past, which have always challenged the needs of the times, are assets that will lead to the future.
Makita's fabric production can be broadly divided into two types: fabric for umbrellas and fabric for clothing.
Furthermore, we have developed cut yarn, stretch, and post-processing to meet changing times and needs.
You can also take a look at the fabrics we have archived and managed since our founding, and develop new fabrics based on them.

<Ordering original fabric>

[For corporate customers only] Would you like to create your own original jacquard fabric? We have a textile designer with specialized knowledge who will support you, so even if you are new to fabric making, you can place an order.

<Weaving umbrella fabric and clothing fabric>

There are six main steps that Makida Shoten goes through before their fabrics are finished, and each step is carried out by specialized craftsmen who have inherited the traditions of the ancient production area.

<Facility introduction>

We own a total of 10 looms, including a large-width electronic jacquard weaving machine with a fabric width of 180cm, which is rare in Japan.
