New product "JACQURD PHOTO TOTE" announced @D&A New York Spring '19
The JACQURD PHOTO TOTE, a portable photo tote that combines art and technology and is produced by a textile factory, will be unveiled at D&A New York Spring '19, a lifestyle exhibition in New York, USA.
Makita Shoten Co., Ltd. will be presenting the "JACQURD PHOTO TOTE" at the lifestyle exhibition D&A New York Spring '19 ( https://designersandagents.com/ ), held in New York.
The work of photographer Nakamura Ayako has been recreated using the sophisticated weaving techniques that Makita Shoten has cultivated for over 150 years, resulting in patterns that are so exquisite they could be mistaken for prints.
This tote bag is woven to the size of a full-page photograph (457 mm x 560 mm), and takes advantage of its size to make the entire bag look like a framed photograph.
We will also be releasing the "TEXTILE TOTE," which is based on the unique vertical size of the "JACQURD PHOTO TOTE" and uses fabric that makes the most of Makita Shoten's weaving techniques.
This time, we are taking on the challenge of expanding the possibilities of umbrella fabric with the "JACQURD PHOTO TOTE."
Photographer Ayako Nakamura's black-and-white photographs have been recreated in a delicate yet bold jacquard (woven pattern) that is so delicate it could be mistaken for a print, using only ultra-fine black and white threads the size of a human hair and the fine weaving techniques she has cultivated. The fabric is the largest size available for a photograph to be printed out, and is treated for use with umbrella fabric to give it water-repellent properties.
There aren't many factories in Japan that can weave patterns the size of a full-page photograph, so we've taken advantage of this to create a large tote bag that looks like it could carry a framed photograph. It can also be used to carry various items, like a laundry bag.
The bag itself also has a small pocket inside where you can fold the bag up small and store it for easy portability, making it packable.
Six textile companies belonging to the Yamanashi Prefecture Silk and Rayon Textile Industrial Association will be jointly exhibiting at the lifestyle exhibition "D&A New York Spring '19," which will be held in New York from September 11, 2019.
